What is NFZ?
NFZ.forestnet is a research and higher education network which gathers seven institutions working on forestry, forest ecosystem and forest-related products. It aims at creating and developing collaborative research and education projects.
The member institutions are mainly based in Nancy (France), Freiburg-im-Brisgau (Germany), and Zürich (Switzerland):
- In Nancy, AgroParisTech (engineering school), the University of Lorraine, and the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA)
- In Freiburg, the University of Freiburg “Albert Ludwig” (mainly through its Institute for Forest Growth) and the Forest Research Institute of Baden-Wurttemberg (FVA)
- In Zürich area and around Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich, an engineering school) and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL)

NFZ.forestnet Summer School 2012: "Forest Economics in a Changing Environment" (FORECE)

Forests and forestry are subjected to significant changes reaching from social and economic developments in the short and medium term to climatic changes in the long run. The NFZ Summer School FORECE deals with the implications of such developments related to:

This summer school is targeted at PhD students and advanced MSc students of forest-, environmental-, resource-, and landscape economics. 25-30 participants will have the opportunity to present their current research. Admission will be selective and based on the following criteria: motivation, country distribution, gender balance. Applications must be sent through the official application form (deadline: 31 March).
The event will take place on 18–22 June 2012 at the Forestry Education Center Maienfeld, Grisons/Switzerland, including a field trip to the forests in the beautiful surrounding mountains.

PhD course on "International Forestry and Global Issues"
15-20 April 2012, Nancy and Champenoux (Lorraine), France

"Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique" (INRA), AgroParisTech and the European Forest Institute (EFI), represented by its Central European Regional Office and the Observatory for European Forests (EFICENT-OEF), will conduct their 2nd PhD course on “International Forestry and Global Issues" from April 16th to 20th, 2012 in Champenoux, France. The course will address a wide range of forest issues, topics which rank high on the international and national forest and environmental research and policy agendas. Applications are now closed. |
